Grand Theft Auto V

Post by Jechtsphere on Fri Nov 09, 2012 3:09 pm

New trailer on the 14th.

Los Santos will be the biggest open world in Rockstar's history, "bigger than Read Dead Redemption, Grand Theft Auto IV and San Andreas combined." Players will also be able to explore underwater areas of the city.

That sounds too big xD

Good article:

http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/11/08/grand-theft-auto-v-details-revealed

Three Protagonists: Trevor (redneck), Michael (older white guy), and Franklin (black/mixed guy).
Each character has his own personality, motivation, and skillset.
Vehicles: cars and trucks, bikes (BMX, mountain), dirtbikes, ATVs, helicopters, planes, and jet skis.
Los Santos in GTA V is bigger than the worlds of RDR, San Andreas, and GTA IV combined.
Heists will be predominantly featured in GTA V. (Heat, anyone?)
Customize your look but not San Andreas style RPG elements.
Side-missions that Rockstar mentioned include: yoga, triathlons, tennis, and golf.
Random NPC encounters are back and more developed.

Rockstar Promises:
More fleshed out missions ala "Three Leaf Clover" in GTA IV.
More complex side missions and activities similar to Red Dead. "It's better to have one really good mini game than five half-assed ones that aren't fun".
Better driving controls
Improved shooting mechanics
Refined melee combat
Vibrant in-game economy (but no buying property)

I was one of the ones who didn't care for GTA IV or really III lol but loved Vice City and San Andreas. This is sounding good.

I think it's gonna be like VC and SA more. I didn't like IV as well.

I hope it's more like San Andreas. If I could get that with more stuff in HD I'd be happy.

I'm looking forward to this game, GTA IV was OK, story was terrible IMO.. I didn't even bother playing through story after multiplayer was unlocked. Adding animals is interesting, reminds me of Red Dead Redemption!

Necro time!

These three are definitely looking like good protagonists in their own ways! Something tells me Trevor's gonna have the most fun missions.

I'm more worried than I was before. It seems random and all but this will have a ton of issues that put the swingset to shame.

Re: Grand Theft Auto V

The swingset took months to find and was intentionally kept in the game by Rockstar, though. And it's a beloved glitch though, one that is probably kept in V for the hell of it.

Not to mention the past two years' unanimous GotY winners were buggy as shit (Walking Dead and Skyrim). Bugs don't necessarily correlate to a drop in quality, especially from a developer whose games rarely have real glitches. Red Dead was nearly perfect as far as glitches go, for example (and that's the only reason why I didn't say the past three years' unanimous GotY winners).

Honestly though it looks too big to be cohesive. This game being a current gen multiplat...it can't work. I'd wager even current pcs could get slowdown. the character transition was pretty jarring. But I will say is it seems to focus on what gta is all about. Random ass fun never touching the story. That's where the series got its popularity and being able to jump into trevors car chases from say a massacre...that's awesome. It won't work for a narrative (and it will not top tlou or bi) but it will do what gta does best.

Re: Grand Theft Auto V

Hey, to be fair, people said the exact same things about everything when it came to GTA IV. That won GotY half-and-half with Fallout 3 and is one of the highest-rated games of all time. It won't have a fantastic narrative, most likely, but if it did it wouldn't be GTA. The fact that it's the biggest Rockstar game, and the fact that it's a Rockstar game, indicates that it'll be fantastic. It's got a number for a reason. By the time GTA comes out, it really comes down to whether Walking Dead Season 2 is out to determine its GotY chances. If Season 2 just started, GTA pretty much wins the fan vote automatically. If Season 2 somehow finishes by then, it could be a close one. The past seems to show that the fan vote goes by the best memorable game and how recently it came out. TLoU will probably win some critic awards, as will Infinite, but something keeps telling me never to doubt Rockstar when it comes to making games. That's about as dumb as getting worried when Naughty Dog stops making Uncharted games and starts making TLoU, which people did.

Well honestly rockstar kinda just refine each game a little bit gameplay wise, redesign the map (never rehashed) and stick in a narritve. They have done the same again. Somehow I don't get the sense of been there done that I should given how its done (honestly if every company did that for numbered games as well as rockstar franchise fatigue wouldn't be a thing) but its never new too me. Bioshock is similar in that although it like tlou has a near flawless narrative, its gameplay is pretty basic.vigors are plasmids reskined, basic fps only decent game thing is skyhook. Tlou is new. Its immersion puts these things too shame and its gameplay is pretty unique. I could explain more and I will later but on phone and tired so smh.

Re: Grand Theft Auto V

With IV they effectively redesigned the whole series, just as III had done. I'd venture to say that V does the same with a multi-prong narrative and all of the depth the game has within it. I mean c'mon, not only can you buy houses, but there's a housing market and a fucking stock market. Things in GTA finally have value (while one could complain that it took this long, the fact that most games have horribly broken economies negates that). And the multiplayer, based on just a sliver of gameplay, looks to be the year's best. TLoU's was unique, but so was BioShock 2's. Uniqueness doesn't spell fantastic over time.

TLoU mp isn't just unique it just fits into the world sooo well. It just works. Again I wager gta will not be the best game on the majority of levels, but it will be the most fun. This goes for the mp too.

thing is there is no guarantee that it'll even bw the best in its genre. No sr4 and ac4 will not challenge gta at all in any way shape or form but watch dogs will and given how alive that city is and how unique it is without over extending itself plus its built for next gen so it has more power behind it...it'd close one
