17 days later, Furious 7 passes the $1 billion mark making it the fastest grossing box office movie of all time.

As soon as I saw the second weekend's numbers I knew it'd beat Avatar. I can only imagine that this will probably hit 2.5bil, maybe more, and then Avengers 2 will probably smash everything.

I think The Avengers 2 will fall short by a day to beat Furious 7, because I think the biggest part this happened was the calling power the death of Paul Walker had.  May he rest in peace.  I personally think The Avenger movies are very medicore if you ask me, but popularity is what makes money.  But, yeah if they keep up this pace Furious 7 may even actually pass up Avatar for the number one spot .

I probably shouldn't have said "smash everything." I don't necessarily think it will be faster-selling than Furious 7.7, but overall there's little chance it doesn't hit 2 billion.

True, we'll have to wait and see what it does.  But, I really hope it passes up Avatar because I hate when fans use it's number 1 spot as an argument for quality without considering inflation.  When we consider inflation, the highest grossing movie is over $3 billion.

Anybody who ever uses sales as a definition of quality might as well be ignored in the discussion. None of the highest-grossing movies have or ever will be particularly good. Except maybe Star Wars.

True, and as for Star Wars I would exclude the prequels, because even Episode I made $1 billion based on franchise hype alone.

I'm talking "Star Wars," not the whole franchise. The others aren't really close when adjusted for inflation.

I think you know what I mean, I was just pointing out how the prequels made a lot of money and were bad.
