Nomura steps down as FFXV director

Post by DP on Thu Sep 18, 2014 12:40 am

Square showed FFXV at TGS. The game is still gorgeous, though the trailer had little substance besides a...car. Yeah, your group drives around roads to get from place to place. Based on Nomura stepping down, the game could go one of two ways:

1. It's almost done, all that's left is asset allocation, meaning Nomura isn't needed anymore. 2016 release date.
2. They're starting over XIII style. 2017 release date if the game is rushed.

Nomura is now working on KH3 in full, so you guys may rejoice on that front because it'll DEFINITELY probably be out by the end of the decade now. That's not a typo.

So there'll be a demo with FF Type-0 HD. Meaning it'll be playable around March.

FF Type-0?

Shit it's been a while since I heard that name. I even forgot it existed.

Yeah lol. It's coming to PS4/XBO, and Agito is coming to Vita and phones.

I'm not happy with the lack of prominent female characters. :/

Yeah. I noticed that too.

They seem to be sidekick story characters. I'm getting a big Princess Zelda vibe from every single one we've seen.

In general I'm not 100% happy with the direction. I'm hearing casual buzzwords, but at the same time I've heard steps to keep it core focused (like the gambit system returning)

I've waited all of this time. If it's not option 1, I will destroy those who turn it into Lightning's next playground.

I normally complain about the lack of prominent female characters, but this seems to be a "hey bro" focus. I don't mind that.

"We do not currently plan on releasing in segments. As director that was something I was concerned with because I thought it was important to complete it as my own title."

YASSS. Also, main story is apparently around 40 hours long, depending on how in depth you go into optional caves and shit.

Hm? No, that quote was for XV. We're not getting another -2 game like XIII. It's self contained, more akin to X, so that any sequelsthat sadly probably will happen will be optional experiences. I'd prefer it if they just maintained the world and developed unrelated sequels though, honestly; XV's world is really interesting from what we know. If they could pull off what they intended to do with Fabula Nova Crystallis, it could turn out like a Mass Effect-styled world that really feels alive.

If I remember correctly, Final Fantasy VX still is Fabula Nova Crystallis.

It is, but the original goal of the subseries has failed to retain the same world and mythos effectively. I'm hoping XV and its eventual spinoffs will right that wrong.
