You know, it's not even the nerd mentality that bothers me. When I see SMB1 put at number 44, there isn't even hope for any sort of logic in this list, even the biased kind. Not to mention that an cult classic like Shenmue is in the top ten when The Last of Us, a mainstream overrated game, is number one, which barely makes the slightest bit of legitimate comprehension. So yeah, I'm just going to pretend that I never saw this thread.

Lol nerd mentality. I like that.

But yeah, I'll never understand the whole "put the most iconic game in a series higher" thing when talking about GOAT. Halo 2, 3, Reach, and hell even the abortion known as 4 are better than 1 and yet it's in the top 10. I get with games where the big defining factor is memorable moments, so I get Uncharted 2 over 3. Shit like Galaxy 1 over 2 even though 2 is only an improvement, or that one bullshit GR list where they put Portal 1 number one despite saying 2 was an improvement in every way, that stuff pisses me off.

Also how is Super Mario Kart better than MK64? There shouldn't be two Mario Karts on this damn list, and the only one deserving of anything near top 100 is MK8. How is Civ 1 on this list but not V? Why is Banjo completely absent? Who the fuck picked Call of Juarez?! WHERE THR FUCK IS TETRIS?

Batman: Arkham City
That game was so short it's not even funny. Just replace it with any other Arkham game and we're good.

Gears of War
Soooo... how about that other GoW?

Assassin's Creed II
I understand that this is a favorite for a good amount of people (including mine) but, AC4 is better in every possible way.

Final Fantasy VIII
Lol no. Should not be higher than IX. Or on this list period.

I love how they remembered Crash but not Spyro. And didn't a couple of these games age terribly? Including GoldenEye?

@DP: Tetris is number 38.

Yeah I ended up finding tetris later lol. The point remains that an exceedingly average game is the best game of all time. If TWD is so low on the list, and TLoU really only added gameplay to the experience in return for a worse ending, how did that alone bump it up 62 Places?

I find it surprising that while Super Smash Bros. Brawl is on that list, Super Smash Bros. Melee is not. But that's probably just me.

I understood that choice. Melee is a better fighting game, but Brawl is a better overall package. As much as I hate SSE, it adds a load of content that'd otherwise be absent.

Correct, and while there is content Brawl introduces, the Smash Bros. series in general sells with it's multiplayer content (which in Brawl wasn't much different. Custom controls was all?)

But I'll take any Smash Bros. on the chart.

Nice top 10 list. The lack of Kingdom Hearts 2 and The Walking Dead Season 1 is confusing but whatever. If you don't agree just make you own list.

And DP I also was like "Wtf" when I saw Call of Juarez

I agree with most of this list, very solid 10 ten games.  The Last of Us taking reigns at number 1 is rightfully earned.

Earned how? Functionally it's an average game. Story wise it's an average story. Thematically it's an average piece. It's the best survival horror game in years but that doesn't make it the best game of all time. No game earns that distinction, especially not one that has been out such a short time or that's been as horribly milked.

I mean this as a legitimate question. WHAT exactly made it GotY? Dunkey is almost exactly right; if you've ever seen a zombie movie you know practically everything about TLoU. I've played 3 hours of Uncharted 3 and I find that several leagues more enthralling because it's not a completely trite experience.

I'm not really gonna respond, rather I'm just gonna say that average doesn't even describe how EPIC The Last of Us is.  If there was ever a time for perfect game design, this is it.

...not really. after playing it, its VERY Meh. It has a ton of flaws on the gameplay standpoint, its EXTREMELY flawed. on the story standpoint its average. thematically its average, a generic Zombie thing (Oh yay a cure...yay) BUT Admittedly the characters are above masterful. but i would prefer Uncharteds characters they are more memorable. actually Uncharted is by far a superior game. it wasn't GoTY, its not fun. you know like games should be!

Still not saying GTA 5 was GoTY either, because it was ALSO overhyped.

If you can't respond I don't think you have a response, which feeds back into my whole point. I've asked dozens at this point and nobody has explicitly given me a reason why TLoU is so spectacular.

And if twenty minutes of linear "exploring" followed by five of clunky combat, for 12 hours, is perfect game design, I think I'm done with Naughty Dog games after Uncharted 4.

i went into Last of Us wanting to love it. i love ND i love artsey games 90% of the time (Only one of the top of my head i hated was ICO. seriously i loved things like Okami and SoTC but not ICO.) so i should love it. the fact that i don't speaks mountains.

Oh god, current ND making a Jak game...I can't even imagine how awful that mashup of styles would be lol. I'd prefer a new studio take over like Sanzaru did, because while ND salvaged Jak 3, they've only had one well-written franchise and that was Uncharted, which is nothing like Jak.

Well if they can get their grove back, why not.

On the other hand...actually no I see no difference. Jak will be as angsty and confusing as ever. It's Dax writing I'd worry about and even then he always pushed boundaries

It's not about the plot, it's about the journey, topped with some great gameplay.

Trust me, the ignorance and near shear stupidity in your post of saying it's average is all that's needed.  It's easily laughed off as simple and very mindless rabble of someone that has bad taste in things.
