Top Ten Games or Series Listings

Post by Count Mario on Sun Jan 19, 2014 2:40 pm

Now, I know that at least for me, I have a bit of an obsession for making lists of what my favorite video game characters or installments or even franchises when I'm bored. So I figured, hey, why not make a top ten list thread where I can post my general consensus on which games I prefer for each series? I know that I'm certainly not the only one who's made such a list, and it'd provide some good and interesting discussion to find out which games people prioritize over another in terms of likability. I'll start with posting Mario, Zelda, and Ratchet lists. Oh, and if you feel that certain titles are equal others, than feel free to input that as well.

7. The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
8. The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
9. The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventure
10. The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening

Don't even get me started on how many times my laptop battery's died on me when typing a long post or PM and how hard I pray for the laptop to not restart when I turn it on again.

I'm sort of questioning whether he just typed down random Sonic games on the fly or what not lol.

I've not once had the urge to play Lost World since the week I got it. I plowed through all of 06's Sonic campaign out of the desire to play it, and I've had urges to play Adventure 1/2 despite my firm opinion that they're only better than 06 if we're talking about story. But there's just too much crap that has turned me off of Lost World, stuff so fucked up that even 2006 can't offer.

lol Alright. But CD below 2006? That's too cruel, even for your standards.

I liked CD, but the worlds all felt too jumbled to me. I get that it was intended for multiple playthroughs, and that's all well and good, but the stuff that wasn't forgettable was just plain mediocre.

Though, mind you, I was playing a phone version, so some of that opinion is tainted by shitty controls (fuck Metal Sonic in his shiny metal ass).

I've never had the straight up fear that Sonic will fall off an edge for no reason in Adventure 2, except maybe the Shadow boss fights. The platforming in Adventure 2 is much more... stable than 06.

The levels are structured much better and with more variety, there's a ton more content, and the mechanics suck a hell of a lot less. It doesn't matter if you don't like the Treasure Hunting or the Mecha (which, for the record, I think were done rather decently), you can't tell me there's anything in this game worse than Mach Speed segments. Not even Meteor Herd.

DX fixes most of the mistakes (ie bugs) in Adventure. I don't have much more to say about that, but I'll agree that I would rather 06 than fish with Big.

I'll admit they're flawed, but damn, to say they're objectively worse than 06 is ridiculous. Heck, even the unpatched versions are at least on par, except maybe for Silver, who is surprisingly the least shitty character to play that isn't Blaze.

If one grew up with 2006, one could easily find a way to ignore or pass by many of the flaws present. But I went into both 2006 and the Adventure series at an age where I could determine flaws easily and not just brush past them. I've played two of the three versions of the Adventure subset, and neither was enjoyable. The GC updates just felt boring to play, and the Xbox version is absolutely broken to the point that you spent half an hour talking about how you swore the GC version was better (despite having seen similar bullshit when we played that one). I've withheld full judgement until touching the true, original Dreamcast versions, but since I've seen consistently mediocre and unfun gameplay in both the GC and Xbox versions it's currently below 2006, because at least with the reboot I can have fun (even if for the wrong reasons at least 40% of the time). I prefer something consistently bad over something that just flips back and forth, like Adventure and Lost World have done for me. (Plus, from a level design perspective, I found 2006 more enjoyable than both SA1 and 2 combined, bar Kingdom Valley and Crisis City Mach Speed.)

And objectively speaking, of course Adventure is better. 2006 is a fucking mess. This isn't an objective discussion though.
