Metal Gear Solid Series Discussion

Post by Count Mario on Fri Jan 03, 2014 10:54 pm

So I've started playing MGS1 for about ten minutes after getting the Legacy Collection a few weeks ago. Definitely haven't played enough to get an accurate impression of the game yet, but it's decent. And as much as I knew about the series' storyline beforehand, I didn't know that Snake was such a player lol (although I guess I should've remembered some of the things he says in Brawl's codec conversations). Do you guys have any advice for me to use later in the game?

More of a heads up than advice, but Liquid Snake is really hard to beat in the final boss fight.

Okay, not gonna lie, the gun aiming in this game is shit. Especially since they just thrust you into a situation where you have to learn on the go. And I'm not exactly the biggest fan of the moving control scheme. The voice acting's okay so far, but definitely awkward in some parts. I don't mean to say the game's bad or anything already, I'm just saying what's on my mind so far.

Especially when they're top down.

And omg, this Revolver Ocelot battle is just so much ass. You literally have to pray to God that you're aiming in the right direction at Ocelot since he runs away if even an inch of him is on screen. And your bullets will practically fly away despite the fact that you can hold twenty-five in one round. Oh, and you have to make sure not to go into the large middle of the battle field due to the Arms Tech president being tied to wired C4w, which easily leads to BS deaths due to the awkward ass running control I've mentioned before. And all of this with his longass health meter (he's the first boss, by the way) and godlike ability to reflect bullets off walls does not help.

Just throw C4s at him. He will mock your inability to shoot but it gets the job done.

Yeah, just shoot at a guy who runs away whenever you get a good angle to pull out your gun with an some of the most awkward control scheming for gun aiming I have ever seen while your opponent has a longass life bar. And I just love how whenever he stops to reload, I come to him from a bad angle since he's leaning against a wall opposite to me and runs away when I get close.

But thanks Blade, I'll try that.

EDIT: I used a C4 and it somehow caused a chain reaction with the C4s strapped to the captive Tech president. So yeah, that option's out.

No, it's not even that. I don't mind long cutscenes, but it's just about so much stuff I don't care about that's so obvious. I mean, I didn't need half a cutscene to talk to me about how nuclear materials are still obviously being used right out of nowhere when talking about contacting Meryl, which is obviously what I need to focus on (along with getting an explanation on Gray Fox coming out of nowhere, which I would've much preferred). And then when I do contact Meryl, it's probably the most cheesy conversation imaginable with her not pulling the trigger due to being a rookie and all of that jazz, although I at least get more info on how the Colonel's BSing me and some hinting on Liquid and Snake being genetic clones.

I just want to meet characters I'll actually like that'll actually stick on topic, and THEN the conversations will become interesting. XD Hopefully Otacon does that for me.

Oh gosh.  Oh gosh.  I can't decide!  It's between MGS3 and Peace Walker.  Oh but which one!

And Count, like i said in your other thread about games that haven't aged well, MGS1...hasn't aged well haha

Re: Metal Gear Solid Series Discussion

I can tell. Just when I was getting into the story with Gray Fox appearing and seeing Otacon piss his pants lol, I've lost more times against his boss battle than I can count at this point.. I don't mind fighting him hand-to-hand, but you literally only have a a couple of milliseconds (I wish I was exaggerating) to hit him and whoever made that life bar that huge for both the third boss of a game that's mainly focused on stealth and weaponry is freaking sadistic.

As sad as it is to say, I'm literally considering just skipping to MGS3 due to how frustrating this playthrough is. I'm sure this game was great back in the day, but it's undeniably not aged well. At all. I'll try again tomorrow, but there's only so much I can take, guys. I really want to like this series, and I've at least seen things from the latter installments that have made a good impression on me.

Why waste even more money despite the fact that I got the entire Legacy Collection? Not to mention that The Twin Snakes is for GameCube and that remake doesn't have the most positive reputation to my understanding. Unless you're joking, which is the only way your comment makes sense.
