I'm really interested in the reboot. I hated the first game but the others seemed like genuine, insane Japanese fun. Kind of like Revengeance but in a different way.

I am too, this reboot does look like a lot of fun although I never played any of the originals.

1 was Nintendo Hard, from what I played. The others were seemingly easy but fun to replay.

I'm not exactly sure what Nintendo Hard means unless you mean confusing, but okay.

I heard it's slightly Metroidvania as well correct? Either way looks good. Was hoping for 3D, but 2D ain't too shabby.

Nintendo hard was a phrase for classic nes/snes games that basically kicked your ass before you touch a button. They have been mostly figured out now but still present a challenge till you learn timing. Strider, Ninja Gaiden, Megaman ect are all examples of this to varying degrees.

Megaman is about mid tier. Castlevania and Ninja Gaiden would be the pinnacle, Strider pretty low down.

I don't get it, I never really found those old games to be hard.  I think the phrase stuck because at the time when people were playing that are using that phrase now were anywhere between four and eight.  Which to a kid anything can seem extremely hard.  I didn't find games like Ninja Gaiden hard until it made its transfer to a 3D environment when I finally got to play it when it came out on the PS3.  Ninja Gaiden 3 sucked though because they designed the game too be too easy.

Nobody can find any 3d game hard and ninja gaiden easy especially the classics. Your from some bizzaro world

Actually no, reaction timing has increased 100 fold so it actually makes sense. Modern games require much faster reactions, although the fact you got past the clunky (comparatively) is impressive.

That or you never played em and your bull shitting. All 3 or equally possible. Yes bizzaro world is a legit possiblity...don't judge me.

I have played them, I can understand why people find 3D games hard but that's because with 2D games we're not used to being able to make realistic moves. It's really up to the designer on the difficulty of the games, but it has nothing to do with the hardware limitations. Because, then and now if the developer wants to make an impossible beat game, they can.

Nintendo Hard usually refers to bullshit hard, where bad design is responsible. Mega Man 1 wasn't hard because it was hard, it was hard because the level design honestly sucked ass. It's made specifically to make you wait hours to learn a whole stage and beat it.

Strider 1 is sort of the same way but to a lesser extent. Ninjas Gaiden, Battletoads, etc., all follow this trend of difficulty through lazy enemy placement or whatever.

I don't think you can consider that genuine difficulty though more than what it actually is, lazy developing.

Well, I missed ONE other facet of Nintendo Hard: The lack of internet. Playing Zelda 1 or 2, or Ninja Gaiden now is easy because there are guides everywhere. You just need innate reflexes to actually get through those kinds of old school games. Playing without any guide? Not normally fun, and often really fucking hard. That aspect isn't so much bad design IMO (not compared to the other one which was entirely bad design), it's just good design for the time period, when games needed longevity because kids only had a few.
