Re: School

Post by DP on Tue Oct 29, 2013 10:31 pm

I got 5 wrong on the math I believe. One went unanswered apparently (I'll take it lol) and I got 7 wrong on verbal (plus one more on writing that I gueas is a freebie since it was only one). So 5 questions wrong/unanswered equals a 700, Pyro. That's still really damn good but that's a reference point to how careful you should be with math.

Thanks for the warning. I'll be taking AP Physics and AP Calculus next year, actually (Our school doesn't have a Calc 1 class because Calc is technically a college level class anyway).

In other news,
FUCKING BULLSHIT

I don't even know if I can handle my Pre-Calc teacher until the end of the semester… Jesus Christ… I really wish I would have dropped out when I had the chance and just went to an outside source to take the class… I mean, seriously, I learn more from reading the book, as boring and awful as that sounds.

She taught us a lesson today and gave us a short test on what we've been learning. The lesson was pretty straightforward and understandable. What ticked me off a bit is how we just learned something and she just tested us on it today, but that wasn't the main problem I had. The way she does tests, which I just figured out from experience and another student that used to have her, is universally, meaning that she uses the same math tests for all of her math classes. Well, you see, it doesn't exactly make sense to put shit from her AP CALCULUS CLASS ON A FUCKING PRE-CALC TEST, basically dooming everybody to fail!

"I got all the stupid kids again this year" my ass. She's making us all fail. And I mean that. Every single kid in her class has a C or below! I've completed and turned in all of my work and studied my ass off until I went insane with numbers and variables and shit, but of course that didn't change a fucking thing… In fact, studying made my test grades get even lower than they already were! HOLY SHIT! How can studying give me a lower grade?

I made a mistake in keeping myself in her class and now I'm going to end the semester with a C. That's low as shit for me… THe only time I got lower was when my teacher last year accidentally switched my Final with another student's, giving me a D until I redid the class in the summer…

Well Calc 1 is the fancy way of saying AP Calculus (AB), and by fancy I mean that's what it is outside of the bubble of high school.

As for that teacher, you could very well put a report in against her if this is true.

There's actually a website where students can put in reviews and stuff for the teachers at our school. The Pre-Calc teacher isn't looking very good as of right now… lol

Re: School

I had an empty slot in my schedule this year, so I decided to take a science (basically the only class that fit the timeslot). Unfortunately, I didn't have room for a lab, so I had to take CP with all the windowlickers. No offense to anyone in CP; I'm saying this more from experience with these students at my school than actual snobbishness.

Anyway, a couple of other people in the class are in the same boat, and I'm pretty sure the first day she overheard someone saying "this class is gonna' be easy." Because of that, I'm pretty sure she decided to just go super tough on our grades.

The first test, the open-endeds were A. describe the Easter Island event and B. the Tragedy of the Commons. I'll skip the explanation part of it, really, but I explained Easter Island with the trees and resources and statues and whatnot, and the Commons almost to a T.

Out of 20 points, guess how many I got for those?
How many, Pirate?:
8/20. I lost 7/10 points for the Easter Island question for not including dirty water or something, and I lost 5 points on the Commons question because I didn't specifically mention who was affected by it.

so me gots this question for homeworks that i be struggling with. normally i wouldn't care but it goes toward a test grade. Its Stats and Probability

the MEDIAN annual household income in Ireland is 32,000. among 10 Randomly selected irish households find probability that:

8 or more had an income exceeding this (I got this part. its 0 cause median is the middle value or average of 2 middle values if even)

at least 2 households had an income exceeding this. (This is my problem. its possible that every single value is 32,000, meaning none exceed, or that 5 values could be anything from 32,000 to infinity.....help!)

I was pondering this earlier. I don't know if you need outside knowledge but I doubt income tax for most Irish Citizens is greater than the average income of the calculated median.

Re: School

forget context dp its maths. you need to use math to solve it not general knowledge (Although due to the nature of the median, which is the middle value, Average of the 2 middle value s if even) 50% of us will be over the median a little more on it (NOT TAX! INCOME!) so the point is moot.

i have been discussing this with count. due to the nature of a median the values are arranged in Ascending order 1-10. Values 5 + 6 added together then divided by two must equal 32000 (Which is how i solved the first one, if the value 5 =/< 32000 and the values below it are smaller/ Equal too, how can 8 be bigger?) so what we need to know whats the probability 9+10 are > 32000, 8,9+10>32000, 7,8,9+10>32000 and 6,7,8,9+10 > 32000. thats the question but it seems impossible to me. (As if all the values incl 6 are equal to 32000 than it still fists the Median.)

see my problem?

EDIT! i dun fucked up. i wrote tax in the question which is not in the question. sorry dp. I edited the question

ok i used a Bernoulli trial formula to get it as it was in a part linked to the question and i didn't use it the first time. i dunno if its right but i got 242/1024 (0.236328125) sounds about right

yep it does simplify to 121/512 but it doesn't matter. i wasnt asked to, its easier to follow if i don't which helps cause my handwriting sucks ass.

lol You're lucky you don't have my Geometry teacher (who also teaches a Stats class). You don't pull excuse like that with even the slightest bit of how you show your work, regardless of what the question asks.

oh....well if it doesn't lose marks we don't give a shit.

wait geometry? as in constructions? or as in Co-Ordinate geometry? it must be co-ordinate cause how can you simplify constructions?

Well if we WERE talking tax, my logic would be sound lol.

Yeah, I never needed to take stats. Calc all the way lol

turns out my method was right, my thesis was wrong.

32000 was the median of the whole populace not the sample of 10. from there i was phucked.
