School

Post by DP on Tue Oct 01, 2013 7:48 am

While I was waiting for my bus, hair still as damp as the morning dew because I had only woke up and showered in the ten minutes prior, I realized we never made a thread where we can discuss or complain about our respective educations. So now we do.

I mostly remember High School for being a hard time, and I remember all the volunteering I did in my last two years much more.

Right now I'm in college. Community College. I'm hoping to become a teacher. I'm undecided between an art major to be an art teacher or a liberal studies major to teach elementary school. Probably the higher elementary grades, like 4. They're still somewhat cute and house trained.

Here's my experience so far:

In high school, the kids all suck and the teachers are pretty cool
In college, you reverse that

High school isn't too bad, but I don't tend to deal with idiots too much because I'm asleep the whole time.

Because of how frank and to-the-point I am when it comes to dealing with people, people not as well acquainted with me consider me both hilarious and very interesting.

Of course, DP won't back me up on that because we're best friends and knows how annoying and chatty I am.

Re: School

Post by Count Mario on Wed Oct 16, 2013 5:02 pm

I got home a couple of hours ago after getting a half-day in school due to taking the PSAT's today.

As for school in general, education wise, fuck Geometry, AP US History, and Biology. Besides that though, I'm good. There are plenty of awesome teachers and despite me being somewhat shy when it comes to talking to new people, I built up my own posse of friends, surprisingly. Still, my only complaint is that it seems like you can only make buddies in high school, and not really any actual friends that you can maintain contact with outside of school, get me to break out of my shell more often, and actually give a damn about. No homo, but I've sort of been searching for that since freshman year to no avail. Considering how I'm an only child, stay inside all of the time, don't live in the same city where I go to school, and maintain long distance relationships with the people that I'm close to, I'm pretty damn lonely (which is one of the factors that attracted to going on forums in the first place).

Also, fun fact, freshman year in high school was the worst year of my life both inside and outside of school. So yes, I would say that high school sucks.

10th grade was the worst for me, but I blame The Catcher in the Rye on that one. Long story, no need to explain it.

But I get what you're saying Count. I wish I could give some advice, but I'm afraid I have none to give.

lol It's fine, Pirate. The school year so far has been a breeze compared to last year (although that might just be because it's early in the school year lol). Thanks for showing some concern, though.

My Pre-Calc teacher is the biggest bullshit teacher I've ever had. All of her classes are failing because she got "all the stupid people." (Actual Quote)

I have a C in it. A C! That's like an F--------- in my book. I don't even find it hard, as it's basically just Algebra review with a couple of little changes... It's just the way she grades is stupid as shit. We need to exactly as she does. Get EXACT answers. "I give partial credit" my ass. Marks even the smallest mistake completely off. Tutor won't do much, as I completely understand what I'm learning...

Can't wait until I switch teachers next semester and watch as my grade suddenly shoots back up to an A.

I drew my pre-cal teacher with a rocket penis and passed it around the class. From then on my teacher, Mr. D, is now known as Big D. Oh man I ROFL'D so hard that day. I really do wish he gets a better class in the future. Mine was complete shit. Class was way too disruptive for me to concentrate or care.

Holy shit mang. Good for you! Must be some luck.

How was it? I'm taking my first SAT test in December with only a handful of knowledge as to the whole thing, from my AVID class.

Not at all. They're easy (made to the lowest common denominator) until the last section when they give you some "tougher" vocab (I almost had trouble with them, so they are probably tough for most). Just know that a lot of stuff is specifically made to trip you up.

And protip: if you can get EVERYTHING wrong - EVERYTHING - you will get a 2400 due to the way the grading is set up. Though if you get even one question right you'll fail so hard.

Ah high school, ye, don't miss it that much. I mean, it's pretty much the introduction for a lot of people into drinking, sex, drugs, not giving a fuck, giving a fuck, drama, losing friends, making friends, good memories, bad memories, you are the world -> a small spec within it. (some of these aren't bad!)

If you can find the balance between destructive/fun and proper/knowledge then it's worth it in the end I suppose.

rocky The entire system needs some tweaking in my opinion.

Now, that's a scary thought. Somebody could miss every single question and end up with a perfect score…

And I know that a lot of it is made to trick you into choosing the wrong answer. Just wanted to know how hard the answers get, but sounds here like vocal just gets more challenging. I'm in Pre-Calc and Physics right now. I think the math portion should be fine.

I'm in AP Physics and Calc 1 with a teacher who's "tougher" than any college professor in that class (she is but the class is still pussy shit). And I got a 700/710 (forget which). So be careful in that mindset about math in particular.

Yeah, DP is a freaking genius. Smartest person I know, and he loves to be a dick about it.

I'm a slacker and not a terribly great test taker, so I'll do SATs in June, not that I really need to take them.
