Killzone's Guerrilla Games begins work on new IP, expect something 'very different'

Post by BigBox on Mon Sep 30, 2013 10:26 pm

"The developer behind the Killzone franchise has confirmed it is chiseling away on a new IP.

“I can be true about it, yes. That’s definitely what’s happening right now. I can’t tell you what we’re thinking of but yes,” said Guerrilla Games’ Eric Boltjes, during a chat with EuroGamer.

“As a studio we do want to branch out, and we have started work on a new IP, something completely different to Killzone. I don’t want to say anything about it right now, but as a studio we do want to keep it fresh.”

The company’s latest effort, Killzone: Shadow Fall, is due out as a launch title for the PlayStation 4 in the U.S. on November 15 and November 29 in Europe. Work began on the title after Killzone 3 wrapped back in early 2011.

"Usually what happens is at the end of a game people start to roll off," continued Boltjes.

"The artists and the coders work the longest, and then QA. But the designers, at some point their work is done. They're not allowed to touch the game because that changes everything for all other departments.

"So about three to four months before you ship, the designers sit down and think, what can we do for the next one.

"That happened then [with Killzone 3 to Shadow Fall] as well. So, about three years ago we went into that phase. The really tricky part about that phase is not trying to do too much. You have a room full of people and they all have a different idea of what they want to change about the game. They can't do everything, especially if you only have two-and-a-half years to build it.

"So it's streamlining that process of what we want to do to this is what we're actually going to do. That's the tricky part."

No word yet on what title Guerrilla Games is actually working on, as the company is keeping all details close to its chest right now.

Stay tuned to PSU.com for more details."

I'm expecting another FPS since these articles happen frequently about FPS devs changing to something new. I HOPE it's different, because Guerilla is damn good.

I see Guerrilla Games/Cambridge tackling a new genre to be honest, either way though. I'm excited to see what it is.

This has been known for some time, hasn't it? Regardless.

Has Guerrilla ever made anything but the Killzone titles? It would be interesting to see what their new IP is but I doubt it's anything too far off from a shooter.

They made one other game pre-Killzone but it wasn't special.

I always found it interesting that they have made EVERY KZ game - including the handhelds. That's something you don't see big devs doing. Especially not 300ish employees big.

That's because they're dedicated to their creations. Guerrilla Games is one of the most dedicated development teams like them or hate them.

Guerrilla Games does own the I.P now, so it could happen.  We probably just gotta ask them for it if they aren't making it now.
