I'll eat crow a bit here and say I'm a bit surprised that people here are taking to it more than a little bit. That said, until we see actual numbers I can't fully believe the hype it has in the US; the Vita itself was the same way to the point.

Best case, it drives up third party support and we see fewer attempts to bank off of FPS titles. Worst case, it's just another Vita. Sony made a great point that heightens possible japanese success, though; these Ouya/Gamestick pieces of crap don't exist over there so they have a good chance at selling these things like hotcakes, albeit again not because of games but rather because it'd be an accessory, just like Sony is trying to turn the Vita into.

At least Sony can finally say they've had a profit over something with "TV" in the name lol.

I think it's surprising you don't need an actual Vita for this. Not even for a controller- what about all the touch enabled games? Otherwise it's a good option for people who want this, and a cheaper alternative to buying an actual Vita.

Touch games aren't playable, from what I understand, at least not without DS4. Even then that's an assumption on my part.

It's likely that theyre going to try to phase touch out the same way they did SixAxis. Even if that means saying goodbye to Golden Abyss being playable lol.

no they said something about patching the game. could mean the system with DS4 and as PSVTV is basically a Ps4 peripheral is that such a Bad thing?

Aside from Ouya being a launch failure and Gamestick a future failure, the Vita TV has been in high demand over here.

Ouya is a failure (And its defense of its kickstarter bs along with everything else it deserves it.) and Gamestick unproven but does that not mean PSVTV could do the same thing and fail...

as competition for these 2? no.

thats not what they were talking about when they mentioned other services obviously. they ment Apple TV and the like. they are the worry.

Marketing it as a budget console would solve this issue whereas in JP its a streambox that plays PSV games. but yeah its Apple TV not Ouya they are referencing.

(And seriously the Ouya isn't even a factor that much is clear.)

Yeah, everybody that doesn't have a Vita has been praising Vita TV here... Mostly because of price and the fact that you basically have everything you need already.

I'd say you can't compare the Vita to the Ouya or the Gamestick in anyway. Because, the target for the Vita is big console games in the form of a handheld experience. What Vita TV essentially the smallest gaming console for AAA games.

pretty much. also its not android based. android games suck. hard. ios has 1 or 2 decent games but seriously mobile gaming blows. not console worthy at all.

Praise doesnt equal purchase necessarily. That's my point. If marketed anything can succeed, though, so it's possible. But they need to capitalize on the praise so that they don't let the sales slip through their fingers like with the Vita.

vita was just overpriced and its good games can be counted on your fingers.

PSVTV just doesn't have./........one of those problems.

Well, the software that the Vita uses is Android based.  All Sony products are Android based actually, they just don't use things like the Android store.

@DP: I don't think Sony will let this drop.  At this point it's really hard to drop the ball on this one, almost impossible.

in all fairness before vita launched it was impossible to fail. it did. its not cut and dry but it would be harder o fail at this point.

as for architecture...well its more pc based with a custom os (I mean you don't see an update for the ps platforms when KitKat os comes out) and doesn't use google play as you mentioned. even if its android based its nothing like android.

That's thing though, the Vita didn't really fail on launch day. It sold pretty well on its launch, especially in Japan shipping selling almost all 500,000 shipped units.

With the Wii U there was honestly no surprise that sales would drop. They grabbed too many third party games that were on the other consoles.

true but whos to say the same can't be said of vita tv which is pretty much a ps4 add on.

that said the entire marketing strategy sony has going is great right now even vitas fortunes have flipped.

That would actually be considered a selling point that you can play your PS4 games anywhere on any TV as long as you have internet. Something like that can in no way hinder its sales since that's something people want. Their PS4 anywhere.
