General Movie Discussion

Post by DP on Fri Jun 07, 2013 10:28 pm

I didn't a general thread for this, I figured I'd start it now, only to complain.

Don't see The Purge. Not only is the actual plot really badly written, according to most reviews, but the plot is also completely ripped off of an episode of Star Trek. I didn't want to see it because I knew the plot would suck, but now I'm telling everybody to avoid it because of the writer(s) being blatant asshole(s).

I saw it too. Its...average. some good action but that's about it. Its a real leave your brain at the door film, in fact you need to drop logic just to accept the concept. Good to see with friends. But there is better movies to see like fast & furious 6 or hangover 3

Hangover 3 was definitely better than 2 but not as good as one.

After seeing hundreds upon hundreds of movie's I've been able to get a "feel" towards certain genres of films. When i saw the preview for the purge, two things came to mind.

1. Nice concept
2. Bet they fuck it up

And if they do fuck it up, well, that's why I'm not going to go see it. However I've heard a lot of anticipation for Pacific Rim, I hope that does well.

I had the exact same belief about The Purge, actually, Chaos. Once I started reading more about it, I saw that it got less and less decent as time went on. It's obviously a movie that's meant to be seen on a whim, without any research, just as Sonic Genesis is a game you were supposed to buy without looking at a review.

Me and a couple of others are looking for a couple good horror movies to watch. So, give me your suggestions. Whether it's foreign or not it doesn't matter. I'll find it anyway. Nothing too old or retarded please...

Human Centipede. The second one in particular is a fantastic comedy.

Or, or, or OR, you can watch Man of Steel with your friends.

...No? Thought so. I don't really have many good suggestions, honestly. Did you see Sinister already?

Oh my god, I was just about to recommend you that lol. Seriously, screw watching Iron Man or any of those other Marvel films (well, maybe you should watch Avengers sometime), but this is seriously one of THE best superhero movies of all time in my book. On-par with The Dark Knight for my favorite.

I've heard some reviews that have said that, and others that have said the opposite, that it was just another failed Superman movie. I'm gonna have to see for myself tomorrow, I guess lol

Off the top of my head in relation to what I thoroughly enjoy.

- Dead Snow (foreign movie, it's Norwegian)
- The Cabin in the Woods
- Sinister
- Rec 1, 2 (3 isn't all that scary, they tried to spoof it) <- where it's from isn't in my memory at this moment.

Those are some horror movies I'd recommend watching.

Disney are adapting Artemis Fowl to the big screen. I guess this is their answer to Harry Potter (as Percy Jackson is for Fox...fuck you fox I loved those and you fucked it up!) But as a fan of the books it is much much much MUCH too clever for a casual audience, if adapted faithfully. And I hope it is their are some awesome characters.

for those of you who don't know Artemis Fowl is a Young Irish (does tap dance) Millionaire and criminal mastermind. He's at a critical juncture as a child prodigy, as he still believes in fairys and has to know how to prove it. So instead of turning in a thesis ( that concept is handled later) he sets out to steal their gold and succeesfully kidnaps one. But these fairys are not wand wielding push overs. They are a high tech race who believe Artemis has no idea what's in store. He and his body guard Butler know Exactly what's in store almost better than they do....

I dunno how I feel bout this. Could be awesome...could be...not. so lets see its still in "rights only acquired" phase.

Goddamnit, I was just about to post about that. Even though I haven't read the books. Actually, I don't read novels much at all lol. I at least heard about Artemis Fowl though.

As for being adapted faithfully... they're doing the first two books in one movie. Take that as you will.

Well they are shortish..nope they are philosophers/sorcerers stone length! And a lot of stuff needs to happen....actually the first two could be smushed into one but that means two awesome villains (one in particular, who is pretty much the franchises main villain) don't get build up....then again its probably gonna be pirates length. And it does mean audiences walk away not thinking of Artemis as a horrible person...which they shouldn't given his history...oh goddamm I need to think straight!

Butler is 6-6 tall and about the same width. And very serious (but badass) Good luck with that.....He COULD well be Artemis dad though...and Helena boham carter as ms fowl.

Movie adaptations make changes and find ways to be eerily similar, yet distinct. It all depends on if Tim Burton's going to direct. Never count out Tim Burton...

...Yeah, I really have to stop killing the mood. I might pick up some Artemis Fowl books if I hit Barnes & Noble before summer ends.
