Furthermore:

This is actually my new desktop background. <3 There are new tidbits about the game as well.

Since its announcement in the last Nintendo Direct, little has been said since about Sonic Lost World, which is one third of an exclusive worldwide deal for the mascot between SEGA and Nintendo. It's a new main series Sonic title coming to Wii U and 3DS, which may be enough for some long term fans for the time being.

While not exactly heavy with details, John Cheng — President and Chief Financial Officer of Sega of America Inc — has been quoted by the Associated Press to confirm that the title isn't any form of retread of existing games, but that it's being produced to feature new ideas for the franchise.

"With 'Sonic Lost World,' we're going to introduce new gameplay and enemies, which is always fun. In terms of Sonic and his friends, he'll have his same friends there, and I think there'll be some new ones as well. It's not a reiteration. It's going to be all new."

Sonic has a lot of friends thanks to SEGA enthusiasm in recent times for expanding the blue one's roster, but this does potentially shatter hopes from the concept art that this would focus on Sonic and Tails. To take an optimist's approach, perhaps SEGA will strike the right balance.

Cheng also stated, briefly, his belief that Sonic can be a powerful exclusive for Nintendo's systems, while repeating a phrase that's often heard in the games industry.

"It should be a win-win situation. Don't count Nintendo out."

How many of Sonic's friends would you like to appear this time? We'd be happy to kick it old-school with Tails and perhaps Knuckles, but we may see some other companions in the Lost World.

Also, here's the gameplay for the new Mario & Sonic from the Nintendo Direct:

I'll admit, even though the Olympics series is obviously a cash-in and mainly just using the franchise names to sell, the graphical improvements from the Wii look astounding. However, buying a game for upped graphics is like watching porn for the story though. Hey

Lastly, there's a slight hint towards what the third unannounced game might be:

Back in April, Sumo Digitals Steve Lycett took to twitter and said - Having a beer, thinking of how we’d follow All-Stars Transformed… In that conversation he also said this.

Today, we find out that Sega have partnered with Nintendo with regards to Sonic…. Could it be that, either the third game in the partnership is a Sonic Vs Mario Kart type game? Or that Mario DLC is on the way for ASRT?

Of course, maybe he’s teasing at the long awaited Shrek & Sonic All Stars racing?

The comments await you to specualte.

Considering how recently Nintendo's been more open to crossovers lately (Pokemon Conquest, Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem, and Retro Studios considered a Star Fox/Metroid crossover, Nintendo and SEGA's healthy relationship shown by the Olympic series still continuing (which might give hope to those praying for Sonic in SSB4 like me), and how Mario was actually being considered for the first SEGA All-Stars Racing as a Nintendo exclusive, I actually think this might be possible. I mean, it explains why they would hide this game specifically and not just say "Oh, we're making another installment in the All-Stars series". However, this could either end up as a whole Mario and Sonic racing crossover or Mario simply being a cameo racer in the next All-Stars racer (one might say that it could have nothing to do with Mario and Sonic, but I'm personally convinced that it is at this point)

Honestly, considering how unlikely a realistic Mario & Sonic crossover or at least a fighting crossover would be, this is really the next big thing. I still have my grain of salt with me, but I'm pumped to find out what's in store! awesome

Merged.

Also, Mario and Sonic All-Stars Karting Battle Royale could turn out pretty well but it'd be odd mixing the franchises, because of the differences between the mechanics.

Okay shoulda Checked this earlier......

ok new friends. hmm. it could be awesome like Blaze, have so much unexplored potential it hurts like Silver, do a complete U-turn in character development on a regular basis like Shadow or be another Big the Cat. please no big the cat. i'm glad some old friends are coming back hopefully the good ones. and i know its obvious but please........Metal must feature.

now as for a kart racer cross over............fuck yes. both games are awesome so a mash up of systems would be epic! plus all our favourite hit and miss characters.......what thats all either franchise does!

I say give Metal some time to marinate and get his game up considering how he was in the last three games *including spin-offs*. I agree wit you on the friends though. I just hate how people are just complaining about the chance of new friends in general considering how we haven't gotten any new ones since Unleashed (Chip doesn't count cause he was only in one game) and, well, the series has to evolve. It's freaking common sense. We just have to hope that they can perfect the characters as much as they've improved with the gameplay whether they're old or new. I'd actually like to see Shadow actually be interesting and Knuckles being useful and notable again.

And considering how he said karting specifically, well, looks like Sonic might be adapting to a bit of a car change (or maybe not if they have different vehicle classes). Yeah, mixing up the fundamentals might be a bit weird, but it's also interesting. I really want to see what SUMO is capable of with this crossover.

And nice new Avatar DP. Really suits you. In fact, I have an afro too (but nowhere near that big lol).

Nah. Let the comics do its own thing and go original. Although I'd honestly love to see someone like Scourge though. Chip was annoying, but the ending (and especially that credits song) was heartwarming in my opinion.

Revealed Silhouette of Mushu and his Amazing Friends Lost World's Six Guardians:

I'm just glad that we'll have some bosses that aren't dark creature manifestations or something mechanical lol. They look interesting, to say the least. It looks like Sonic Team's going for more "wackier" and peculiar designs for new characters since Colors, which I honestly don't mind at all. I'll give these give these guys a chance, because, well, it's just a solhouette lol.

I was thinking they would be bosses, which is definitely a nice change of pace, but do we know for sure that they are? I mean, they could just be allies of some sort (even if the idea of a silhouette wouldn't make much sense for them *looks at Link's Axis teaser*).

Re: Sonic the Hedgehog Discussion

We don't really know, but I doubt SEGA would really make all of those new friends lol. I mean, maybe a couple (hopefully the dragon at least), but I'm leaning towards bosses considering their title. Although, they could basically act as those types of characters that you're supposed to meet at the beginning or end of a major area in order for the story to progress (like how in LoZ: Spirit Tracks you have to meet with the Sages in order to progress to each dungeon). So really, they could be anything. XD Still, I hope they're bosses though (I would still want a few Eggman bosses though, aka, multiple bosses for each world I guess).

I'd say I'd definitely prefer bosses, but knowing Sega and Sonic Team, I will always question their judgement ever since the year 2006. And, for that matter, a proverbial shit-ton of other Sonic games.

To be fair, 4Kids had many influences on Sonic 06' development. But I sort of trust SEGA now at this point. If Lost World follows the direction and trend of Colors

I legitimately cannot trust them ever again, that's my whole thing. It'd be like trusting Capcom NOT to add DLC - even if they promised not to, I'm staying weary until they fade out of existence.

The only difference is SEGA's actually started making good games again lol. Although I still see your point, it's easy for them to mess up again. Still, every series has a low point. Sonic's just went straight into the Pits of Tartarus, that's all. awesome

Re: Sonic the Hedgehog Discussion

Hey, two full games doesn't make a comeback to me. Not after Sonic Genesis. Or 06. Or Secret Rings. Or Tennis (although I liked Tennis). Or Black Knight (although it wasn't TERRIBLE). Or 4. Or the Werehog. Yeah, we got Colors, Rush, and Generations, but I've gotta see a new, full-sized 3D game to believe it (Generations was neither truly new or full-sized, as you can beat it in four hours).

Re: Sonic the Hedgehog Discussion

Post by Count Mario on Fri May 24, 2013 11:46 pm

Secret Rings wasn't that terrible as well, if I might add. Didn't mind the Werehog that much as I did enjoy the gameplay a bit. Just didn't think it fit in with a Sonic game and killed the flow. And Tennis doesn't really count because that was both a spin-off and a crossover. episode 1 of 4 was a total rehash, but for a short game, it was a bearable time-waster. Episode 2 did improve on that though so it was actually enjoyable. The only two titles I really agree with that you mentioned are Genesis and 06, and I am surprised that you didn't mention Shadow (which I didn't think was terrible either, but conceptually a horrible idea for a freaking Sonic game). I mean, in all honesty, I think the downfall quality of recent Sonic games before Colors was vastly exaggerated. I mainly looked at it as hit or miss rather than one crash after another.

But hey, that's just me. I see what you mean though. Still, despite Colors' focusing too much on 2D, it literally stands as my favorite Sonic game (excluding Generations), even above 3&K and 2. Here's hoping that Lost World can add another success because ever since Takashi Iizuka took control of Sonic Team, the Sonic franchise has been running much more smoothly than before. Lost World is pretty much going to be the real test as to whether or not ST can keep this going in my eyes, or if it was just a momentary diversion from their dormant joykill abilities.

Re: Sonic the Hedgehog Discussion

I was trying to stay after 2006 with my list, but I could've mentioned Shadow and Heroes had I mentioned them. (Heroes was at best decent but from what I've heard the control is absolute shit, possibly worse than 06.) Also, I listed Secret Rings because I've heard friends call it literally unplayable, friends who aren't known to exaggerate, especially with Sanic. It definitely DID get worse over time (I mean, imagine if the pre-Adventure 3D titles had come out), but it plateaued and lessened after 06 and Genesis. But it wasn't until Rush and Colors that we got more than just bearable experiences.

Re: Sonic the Hedgehog Discussion

Post by Count Mario on Sat May 25, 2013 12:12 am

I played Heroes on GameCube, so I haven't had much trouble with the controls. Like you said, I thought it was decent. You might be talking about the PS2 version, but I'm not sure. As for Secret Rings, really, it's because of how you have to use the stupid controls of holding the Wii Remote horizontally and tilting that makes it difficult. Because unlike in Black Knight, you have to Homing Attack enemies and such. After a while, it becomes bearable, but not really too enjoyable.

And your summed up opinion is pretty much the same as mine. I just wanted to make the point that I don't label most 3D Sonic games as literal tragedies. They definitely got worse over time and toned down after it hit it's all time low with 2006. Really, we could go on and on about this, but there's a reason why one of the forums I left was the SEGA Community forum.

Also, SEGA tweeted this with the teaser for the six guardians:

Six will rise from the Lost World. Are they friends or foes? Find out May 29th.

Now I regret Nintendo Power ending even more because this game would've been one issue's main feature for sure.
