Demo was awesome!

The only thing that bothered me was blocking, it feels so weird but other than that it was great!

Edit: I get distracted with Blade mode waaaaaayyyyy too much! xD

I have never played a metal gear game.. (please don't kill me) but I have to say, I would definitely be willing to get to know the series just so I can play MGR :) it was a very fun demo. The little boss fight was crazy awesome! The whole blade system would take some time to master but it was fun just getting in close to an enemy and spamming your right stick left and right to make some bad guy sushi xD

btw jecht.. your gif is EPIC. A little weird but all in all, good for a laugh

Just be aware Paradise, MGR and MGS don't exactly play the same way if you're looking to play the past games and Ground Zeroes (Along with whatever Phantom Pain is). Other than that, I'm glad to see more fans joining the series. All the MGS2 Raiden haters can go suck it. Hey

I know that rising and solid are completely different :P I have seen metal gear solid being played many of times (I played the metal gear solid 4 demo a long time ago) I have never been good at stealthy games like deus ex or splinter cell but hey! I can learn right? :D

I have a lot of ps3 HD remakes to try out so I am sure I will pick it up one of these days! My friends are interested in it as well all thanks to Raiden and solid snake making their way into our favorite games :)

Trust me MGS games are easy especially since it has easy and very easy settings lol and in MGS you don't have to use stealth if you don't want to.

LMAO.

I played the demo. Well, it's not exactly my cup of tea and not a day 1 purchase. I had trouble dodging and forced myself to run all the time. The blade mode was cool, but it's stiffly and hard to control the slash and camera. DMC demo is more challenging and entertaining than MGR:R demo, but Raiden using blade mode is more fun though.

I was actually playing the demo again, earlier today.
After a while blocking doesn't seem so hard, it's awkward at first but then it feels more natural.

I'm sure it's like this for any game but it's not as bad as I first thought.

There is a button for blocking? I didn't see it or probably missed it in the instruction. I might try the demo again. Still, I prefer variety, not just one sword all the time even with different playstyles, which is why I prefer DMC.

Yeah, it's actually two buttons.
If I remember correctly it's L1 and the L stick, don't quote me on that though.

I'd suggest playing the demo again to get a feel for the controls and then trying it once you have the controls down. DMC was fun too btw!

by blocking do you mean the counter attack? If so, that took me a while to figure out lol I ended up figuring it out on the little boss fight when it kept charging up its attacks. I was talking to a friend today and he downloaded the demo yesterday and he didn't understand it for a while either xD the games definitely going to have a little bit of a learning curve

Re: Metal Gear Rising Discussion

Post by Pyro-Hem on Sun Jan 27, 2013 1:12 am

Finally, I got around to playing the MGR demo. I've been worried that this game wouldn't be very good since when they first announced it and although Platinum Games helping Kojima out made me feel a bit better, I still had my doubts. I haven't been following this game as my friend Vytrova has, so, when I heard from him that the trailers were pretty bad I was beginning to just forget about the game for fear that I'd hate it. From the trailers that I had seen, everything was "brown" and the environments looked rather empty. Blade mode and some combat looked a bit slow and the textures weren't exactly the best. Sounds like a couple of games already...

Knowing that the demo was out I just downloaded and played it. I gotta say, I loved it. Much different than the boring trailers that I had seen! Everything was colorful, the combat was fast and easy to get into, and blade mode is super fun to use. In fact, I found myself searching in the level for anything that could be cut using blade mode and just demolished it. The story seems good from what I've seen so far and although certain things can be hilariously over dramatic, it was epic. The music is great, although, again, a little dramatic at certain times, but it's all catchy. After fighting the boss to it's theme I feel like downloading the theme to my phone. The only problem I had was the counter system. Moving the L stick and pressing square to counter was a little awkward at first, but eventually you get the hang of it. Also, having no evade kind of threw me off after countless hours of Anarchy Reigns and Bayonetta, but you really can just go into Ninja Run mode and most attacks will miss you...

All in all, I really liked the demo, as it has made me excited for MGR again! :P

^I enjoyed it as well. Maybe not a day one purchase, but I will eventually get this. I gotta say, SuperBot NAILED him. The only thing I hated about the demo was the way you counter attack. It's annoying as hell. Oh and the fact that when I'd go into "precision" mode as I call it, the camera would go either directly up or down and get me all out of whack. Things I will fix in the main game surely, but still slightly bothersome.
